It seems that our memory isn't always trustworthy. When you try to recall an even, your memory can be biased in several ways. For example, if you receive new information from a trustworthy source, your memory tends to reshape the stored information accordingly. Memories formed under stress - like a car accident - are especially vulnerable to change. Just look at this experiment done by the Brain Games crew at National Geographic Channel.
