The Twins Celebrate Their First *Real* Christmas 🎄

Even though last Christmas was technically the girls' first Christmas, they were too little to really remember it.

Matt and I had more fun this year because we knew the girls would be able to understand what was happening.

The day before Christmas

We did most of our shopping ahead of time, but as always, there were a few last minute groceries and gifts to pick up. While we were out, we stopped at a play place in the mall (one I've blogged about before).

Of course, it was even more fun with Daddy there!

When we got home, I started prepping Christmas dinner ... and turned to find this:

Christmas morning

The girls stayed up late Christmas Eve and didn't wake up until 9am Christmas morning. When we could hear them talking in their cribs, Matt went into their room to read to them while I got the presents set up. Their reaction was too cute to try to describe so here's a GIF.

After inspecting the presents, Squirt did her signature happy dance:

And then ... she backed away from the gifts! 😲

When friends come over, we've been teaching the girls not to touch things that don't belong to them. Because she didn't recognize the presents, Squirt waited until we gave the go ahead! I really didn't see that coming, LOL

Their gifts

I mentioned before that we bought the girls new shoes. The shoes were a hit! Both girls ended up wearing theirs for most of the day.

They enjoyed opening their kitchen playware (we're hoping to get them a little kitchenette for their birthday). It's so cute to watch them pretend to cook and then give us bites of their "food". Won't be long before they're helping in the kitchen!

They also got a soft soccer ball that they love kicking and throwing with Daddy.

Christmas lunch

Because she had to go to work at 3pm, our friend came over for Christmas lunch (instead of dinner). Our pictures got deleted :( but we had a great time together and thankfully all the dishes turned out okay! (I have a bad habit of trying new recipes for special occasions...)

Looking back, our day wasn't big or fancy, but it was very special. Seeing the joy and wonder on the girls' faces filled my heart with gratitude. God has given us many good things - hope, friends, love, laughter - and Christmas day was a reminder of all of it.
