Greetings Steemians, here is my entry for today’s “Mermaid Monday Contest Week 15 Theme: Seasons.”

This was a delightful Theme to think about. I decided to draw a “fall scene.” I pictured fall leaves 🍁, and a slightly dark day, which is normal for fall. I also wanted the sun low in the sky, so that I could make shadows on the beach, around the rocks, and the mermaid I imagined. I knew it would give the overall drawing a more realistic look, shading works very well for that. The mermaid, I knew, had to be sitting out of the water somehow, to show that it was a fall day.



The very first thing I drew, when starting my drawing, was a stormy looking sky, full of big puffy white cumulus clouds. Continuing on downwards, I drew a large mountain range, and it looks as though a storms brewing over it. I kept the mountain range light and simple.



Next I drew out a small peaceful sandy cove, with fall colored trees slightly in the distance, I continued drawing rocks and seagulls.



And finally I drew a lovely mermaid sitting at the waters edge. After I drew her out completely, I thought to myself, she looks very lonely sitting there by herself hmm... what could I do? Next I drew a heart shaped image in the sand near her, hmm... could she be in love with somebody I thought? I tried to make it look as though she had found a small piece of driftwood along the edge of the shoreline, and she traced this heart shape design out with it.



After I had finished with all that, and put the last little bits of highlights and details into my drawing, I decided to add “her merman” to the mix, so that she could have someone next to her, to enjoy such a glorious fall evening , and to watch, in awe, a magnificent thunderstorm brewing on the horizon. This was all drawn with an IPad Procreate App, using mainly an airbrush setting, along with various other kinds of tools for the clouds, water and rocks.
