Awkward feelings

This continues the Zen series with Moriarty and CQ the mermaid meeting up in the submarine's mess deck...

With his tongue in his cheek and by the seat of his pants Captain Admiral Moriarty finally managed to open the water-tight door to his cabin in the submarine on the bottom of the ocean. He was very hungry by now after being in the cabin for so long, and not a little thirsty, and so made his way towards the mess deck where he met CQ the mermaid who was opening a bottle of wine on the table full of Billy cans and bully beef.

In the mess deck, formalities were put aside and so there was no need to salute the captain of the ship, but the head of the table was always reserved for the captain.

Captain Admiral Moriarty sat himself down at the head of the table and stared at the tins of food which he did not like one bit. CQ offered him a glass of wine and he downed it in one. Although the dress code was informal, seeing the naked CQ was unsettling, to say the least, and also rather peculiar.

“Where is everyone?” he asked, keeping his eyes on the wineglass in front of him that had been re-filled.

“No idea,” said CQ munching a frozen sardine. Long moments passed in an awkward silence as the captain tried to deal with his feelings...
