Learning from the Mentors 向导师学习

Learning is an important discipline if we want to excel in what we do. We need to seize the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skill for what we are passionate for.

Today I taught a group of students on how to communicate messages effectively. One of the ways I recommended for them is to learn from mentors who are great communicators.

There are times we come across a good speaker of a function organised by us. This actually gives us the opportunity to interact with the speaker not only during the formal function, but also during the time for us showing our hospitality. I encouraged my students making good use of the time such as having meal with the speaker. It means that they can ask the speaker regarding the knowledge and skill of communication. Although it is an informal time of learning, it can be a great learning time for the humble students. The students concerned are then being mentored informally. If a student is able to learn from great communicators from time to time, overtime the student will definitely become a better communicator.

Therefore, mentoring is not necessary only during formal session, but perhaps, more effectively it is at an informal meeting with a speaker, communicator or specialist of a particular field.

如果我们想要在工作中有出色的效果，持续学习将是一项重要的纪律。我们的确需要抓紧机会来获取我们所热衷的知识和技能。

今天，我指导一群学生要如何有效地传达信息。其中一种我推荐给他们的方式乃是向有果效的沟通者或导师学习。

有些时候，我们会在由自己安排的节目中遇到了一位好的演讲者。这实际上是一个机会让我们透过正式的节目时间向他学习，而且也可以在节目以外如招待演讲者用膳时间多多与他交流，这意味着我们可以向讲员请教有关沟通的知识和技能。虽然这是一个非正式的学习时间，但只要我们乐于虚心受教，这可能会成为一段充实的学习时间。因此，我们将透过这非正式的諮詢受益良多。如果我们能够不时向优秀的演讲者学习，随着时间，我们肯定会成为更好的沟通者。

所以，接受指导不僅僅是在正式的场合，也许更有效的受教是在非正式的场合与讲员、特定领域的專家或传播者的交流时间。
