Why Investors and Gold Matters
Investors matter.
A lot.
Investors matters very much to both Steem and @steemmonsters because they are able to back projects in material ways and literally move markets.
For some reason “investor” sometimes takes on a negative connotation which is pretty silly if you think about it. First off, we are ALL investors as any that are reading this have likely in some way invested themselves, their time, their thoughts, their energy and money towards the STEEM blockchain or @steemmonsters (splinterlands).
Steem, Steemit, or @steemmonsters would not exist and you would not be reading this without MASSIVE opportunity investment by some creative and driven minds.
Without @yabapmatt and @aggroed investing and pouring most of their lives over the last year or so into the game, we would be talking about something completely different.
Recently Splinterlands hit a “marketcap” of $2.5 million:
While this number may be flawed in a number of ways, it does show a trend with a significant positivity direction especially in the last month or so.
I believe that a disproportionate part of this rise is due to ONE investor.

@j6969 recently bought *25k booster packs and a few million DEC (Dark energy crystals). At $2 a pack, we know that this was a significant investment, not to mention some other ultra rare gold cards @j6969 has purchased on chain.
This investor seems pretty serious as he or she now has the most valuable deck in the entire game:

It is not just the number that matter when a larger investor backs a project, its the boost of confidence that all players might feel as well.
If someone it willing to put such a large amount of capital in play, they must be very confident themselves that there a great enough chance that they will make a good return to offset the risk they are taking on by deploying their money in the chosen asset.
I believe that the surge in marketcap, in a time where STEEM is flailing is due to more than just this one investors actions, but the excitement and buzz their actions cause.
We have seen this more than once in the SM\SL ecosystem. A whale comes in to make a huge splash and card prices reflect the action quickly. This sends everyone into a buying panic pushing up prices even more.
OF course, @j6969 would not have anything to invest in if not for the robust infrastructure of the game itself which took hours and hours of.... investment.
Speaking of investment, it is no accident that the most valuable cards in the game are associated with gold. Gold has been and is a prevalent store of value for all recorded history and is recognized in every culture.
