Did you ever wonder why you feel forced to propose (or accept a proposal) with a diamond ring?

I can ask this without any sense of superiority because I can definitively say that my own personal answer is C.

In my own defense, when I proposed with a diamond ring just a few years ago, there wasn’t another easy alternative like there is now.

In the 1930s and 40s, DeBeers ( a diamond company) teamed up with a ad agency called N.W. Ayers to create a campaign around diamonds to make every couple about to get married feel compelled to have one.

The phrase “A diamond is forever” has appeared in every DeBeers ad since the late 1940s.

This simple marketing campaign was and still is a smashing success:

Most things we “know” about diamonds are actually myths.

For example:

1.Diamonds aren’t actually forever.

2.They aren’t rare.

3.They aren’t indestructible.
