RE: NYC '1964' @AngryMan, Year of 'The Beatles' Invasion

in #memories6 years ago

My first thought when looking at the photo was "Jersey boy" in my head that means runner for the mob, then I read New York Yankies and thought "Bronx" which means basically the same to me, I forgot about Queens and honestly do not know where any of these places are but they all seem to have gang history.

I was a little proud of my assumptions then I remembered I have read most of the past couple of weeks posts but I did not read the Mob one so I should do that.

On that list of songs I can only listen to Johnny Cash more than once, I actually have his entire discography but don't really like the christiany things and stick to the best of stuff.

Seems you had a good run though, although no white picket fence on display you had your version of it. Thanx for sharing.

Yes, they do have a lot of history in that direction. Astoria is kind of a mixed bag of families controlling different money making aspects and/or small geographical areas.

There even became a Greek organized crime syndicate at one point after the Greek population rose to become the largest outside of Athens. A guy named Spiro was their Godfather and granted protection by the Italians for the right kick-upstairs percentage. (without stepping on other's toes as well)

Colombo had his 'Italian American League' there and was killed for it. The other families frowned upon his attention getting openness at the time.

I don't expect all readers to know some of these places mentioned at times in my writing. It helps with my credibility though, with people who DO know ;>)
