The power of the meme is undeniable. The ability to convey a message by adding a few words to a picture is something that can have a massive effect when harnessed properly and it takes a certain amount of skill to create a meme that can capture the imagination and thought of its viewers.

I'd like to openly harness this power by challenging you to create a meme which conveys a given message in a way that will make the viewer think about things that we take for granted in society from another perspective, by making them question their already existing beliefs on certain subjects.

Even as a traditionalist who enjoys the written word and takes pleasure in reading at length when the opportunity arises, I can't deny the power of the meme, especially so in the modern, twenty-four hour world where our attention spans seem to have suffered a noticeable decrease.

I'm a victim of this myself and I only have so much time like the rest of you, so being able to convey a message that inspires as much thought as would a post that took four hours to write and is 3000 words long, can be a pretty effective and convenient way of doing so, although I wouldn't recommend doing it exclusively. :)

While a good meme can make you laugh, a great meme can make you cry and a really great meme can help you see the world in a whole new light.

It's one thing to make your viewers laugh by taking the piss out of Donald Trump or any number of other 'celebrated' individuals. It takes a certain amount of skill to be funny, I'll admit.

But to convey an important message about the problems we face as a society in a subtle and thought provoking way is a much harder task in my opinion and it's in this that I find excitement at the possibility for disseminating information that I think should be of importance to all of us, which is why I will be setting a meme challenge every day for the next ten days for you to come up with a meme that represents your views on certain controversial subjects of my choosing. :)

Todays Theme Is

To enter the challenge, simply create a meme based around your thoughts, opinions and position on what the word 'FREEDOM' means to you.

When you've made your meme, you can either make a post for you own blog yourself, or you can upload your meme to your steemit blog using dmania.lol. Dmania is a meme hosting site and recent addition to the steem blockchain which has received a large delegation of SP and at the moment are running an auto-vote bot which is upvoting trending memes on its site.

Since my own account is still relatively small and I can't guarantee how much the prize will be, I thought it would be a good idea to utilise D-mania in order to both support their growth by hopefully supplying quality content and also by giving you the chance of an upvote from their bot if you create a great meme but don't win a prize in the contest.

Whichever method of entry you choose, be sure to include 'Memes That Matter' in the title as well as the theme you are entering and add the hashtag #memesthatmatter as one of the tags .

And that's it!

Upvotes and resteems would be appreciated if you are going to enter but there is no compulsion to do so.

Prizes!

Each round of the challenge will end after the seven day reward period and I will choose a winner from each round who will receive half of the liquid rewards from that rounds post, as well as a Trophy-Token, for which you will need a Bitshares account. You can create an account by clicking here.

Thanks for your time and to those of you who decide to enter...

And we just started counting on crypto
And boom we fall.🤕

Great idea! I love the first meme - very clever.

I couldn't say on the dmania post because there is no description box, but I want to disqualify myself from prizes. I am entering just to support the idea. Also, because you are running this on dmania, I think you should only ask for memesthatmatter as a tag and not also for the title. That should still be enough to find all entries, especially if they post them here.
