HIstory of Halloween

Halloween has it's roots in a Gaelic celebration called Samhain, not Danzig's old band. Nothing to do with Danzig other than his band after the Misfits was named Samhain.

It's a very old tradition has been traced back to Neolithic times in Ireland. Historically it was celebrated from Oct. 31 through Nov. 1 for the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter.

In the 9th century it was merged with Chistianity's "All Saint's Day" and celebrated on Nov. 1. They had a way of doing that to other ancient traditions didn't they?

Modern day Halloween can be traced back to the 16th century in Ireland when people would dress up and go door to door reciting verses to receive food offerings for the dead. The word Halloween dates to 1745 and was a conjuction of the Scottish phrase "All Hallow's Eve". The tradition became observed in America with the mass immigration of Irish and Scottish in the 1800's. Now it is celebrated world wide!
