Things Aren't Looking Good

It seems that there is very much conflicting information when it comes to what exactly is going on in Wuhan, China regarding the coronavirus outbreak. The official word from the Chinese government is that there have currently been 170 deaths and 7,711 confirmed cases of infection. What we are seeing on social media from folks in China as well as people on the ground at hospitals dealing directly with those infected, is that they believe there to be a much higher infection rate, some speculating at around 90,000 people. The central province of Hubei, where nearly all deaths have occurred, is in a state of lockdown, and the province has about 60 million people. The city of Wuhan has been completely sealed off with no one being allowed to leave, and everyone is staying indoors.

The major issue here is that China very much controls all information coming in and out, so basically we need to take the government at their word for the time being. Many flights as well as passenger ship coming from China have been suspended the major countries like USA, Taiwan and Canada. Here in South Africa with probably of the worst government health system in the world, the SA government has said it is stepping up health checks on all passengers arriving in this country from Asia.
