Keeping an open-door policy as a manager is basically good idea, but there comes a time when you have to know it is time to kick the door shut so that you can:

• Get on with some work
• Have a meeting in private
• Let your friends and family knows you don’t want to be disturbed
• Secure a place in human community
• Let your team members know you really are the boss and not really one of them at all
• Take charge
• Let the world know what you carry and inject them with it
• Corrupt the world with your great idea and make people happy. Etc

Time is now:

Getting all this done, you have to use whatever tools you have to hand, to make sure the work is done and your objectives are met and done well and on time. Make lists, use popup calendars on your computer, delegate, seek help, stay up late, get up early – obviously you still need to refer to the up listed points I gave earlier: go home, you have a life. But get that work done and learn to be ruthless efficiently.

Time is now:

To work hard when you are not being encouraged with an electric cattle pod is a bit like working for yourself. You have to be motivated, dedicated and focused. It takes practice and training. We all like to goof off. And that’s fine every now and then. We all need thinking time, down time. It is important though not to overdo it. Don’t let the time bandits come in and steal the whole day.

Time is now:

To set little deadlines, make short lists so you can cross of lots and feel good about what you have done. Get loads of fresh hair, or you’ll sleep to much when you are meant to be working or achieving something unique, don’t drink alcohol at lunch time, you will sleep afternoons. Go to bed early enough, or you’ll be trying to catch up on sleep in the office or any where you find yourself.

Time is now:

To learn from your mistakes, we all make mistakes – we wouldn’t be the wonderfully creative, innovative leaders we are if we didn’t. but some leaders gloss over any mistake they make. They cover them, bury them, forget about them. You, as a brilliant leader, wont do that, you wont beat yourself up over them, nor sit in the pit of misery over them but you will analyze what went wrong, discuss with friends and colleagues why it went wrong and make a plan to prevent it from going wrong again.

Time is now to have a game plan:

No one knows what goes on inside your head. No one knows what lofty heights you aspire to. No one knows what you are really up to. Know what you are actually doing, so you can work on your game plan and to be doing your job well at the same time. Your game plan should incorporate both long and short term goals, where you want to be, where you intend being, and then you have something to match you success against where you actually are.
