At about 4:00pm on Friday evening, I got a message asking if I was going to be present at the event in Ibadan which took place on the 24th of February.
Apparently, @fisteganos sweet-talked how internet services were available and strong in Ibadan.
I had two jobs to attend to before 2:00pm on the same day but I said "yes".
Asides the fact that I wanted to be at the Steemit-Ibadan meetup, I also wanted to see a some people.
Old friends from school and my grandma.
Yes, my grandma.
That's grandma.
I left Lagos for Ibadan Late
I had two laptops to fix and deliver on the day of the event in Lagos. I had promised my clients of delivering the job a week before so I didn't want to disappoint them.
I completed the jobs by 1:45 pm and made move to Agege to board an inter-state transit bus to Ibadan.
Failed Kidnap/bullying/swindling
It's no news that kidnap/bullying/swindling is a thing in Nigeria.
Anyone can choose to mess with you at any time.
When I got to Agege, some men tried to intimidate me with Police IDs claiming to be on surveillance.
They weren't dressed in Police uniform. They insisted on searching and arresting me but I knew they were liars.
I asked if they were trained to identify criminals at first sight and told them I suspect them to be kidnappers. They marvelled at my audacity but I needed it because I wasn't ready to be at anyone's mercy.
I spoke in a loud and rude tone in order to get the attention of passers-by.
In the end, they left me disappointed with their tactic.
The journey
Pictures will tell. Here's also a link to a short video which compiles a bit of the things I recorded.
A terrific traffic jam
Pit Stop at a Fuel Station
Over here, people hawk all kinds of food and items needed by travellers.
That man sells candies.
Finally in Ibadan
When I arrived the ancient city, I took a motorbike to the venue and the first people I saw were old mates.
I failed to take a picture with @trillex out of excitement. Real Dude! Its been 5 years.
However, I met with other great and lovely Steemit users like
@nwamaka
The devoted and diligent co-registrar at the event.
@iroyal (middle) an old classmate and @olawalium (left) a good Steemian friend
@agbona. We met @steem-lagos' first meetup.
@fisteganos; He invited me and left me to fend for myself. Good one man. He did his best. He had to attend to demand for food and drinks.
Selfies and short talks were not left out.
@ejemai the great. We had a very short time to connect. He was so busy taking selfies with steemians and talking to people.
He encouraged a lot of Steemians with his story and selflessness.
I also met a few other big time steemians like @jeaniepearl, @ewuoso and @tojukaka.
My lateness to the event didn't give me the opportunity to meet more people.
Chai!
Thank God you didn't fall into the hands of those criminals, all these happened and you fit tell person sef.
Hope you've delivered the jobs BTW
Thank God bro. :-) I'm safe, thanks for caring.
I did before I left for Ibadan.
What a journey you had. Glad you finally came through. It was nice seeing and having you around. I'm sure you had fun?
I did man. Funny enough we have mutual friends.
We would most likely have more. I was glad to see you.
Thanks for the comment.
That's impressive. Who could that be? Definitely, more is on the way.
If you knew @iroyal, you'll most likely know @woleybabz, @trillex and so on.
I recently got to know iRoyal through Ibadan Steemit group.
