Some thoughts and the secret of Vipassana meditation in psychology
What is vipassana meditation:
Many people heard of the word vipassana, it was created by Budhha, it can help people reduce pains, in the world there are many Vipassana meditation centers.When I first heard about vipassana, I think it is so great, also there are some doubt about it, how can there has so magical methods in the world?! When I had taken the course of Vipassana, I would like to express my feelings about it and the secret of the method.
The process of vipassana meditation:
The first time I took the course ,there are a entire guidance of the whole process. But the key concept is observation! It is very important, just observe yourself ,observe your body again and again,and as long as possible. So what is the exactly object of your observation, it is the feelings of every inches of your skin and even viscera of your body. The process is from the surface of your body the skin to the inner body the viscera, from the most sensitive place to the insensitive place (breath in the nostril is the most sensitive place)
For the ten days course of vipassana the first two days is just observing the breath around the nostril. The rest of the days is for observing the whole body, from head to feet from feet to head again and again. In this course everyone must keep silence,no talking no communication. At the beginnings almost everyone feels uncomfortable also pains about this rule. But few days later you’ll find out the joys and the secret of the practice.
For example in my experience, I found that my sentience ability was getting stronger. At first I could only perceive the cold feeling(when inhale) and warm feeling(when exhale), days later I felt that my upper lip was trembling my heart was beating, and then i suddenly found out that the vibrations of my upper lip and heart were consistent. And then when observing my whole body there were many feelings such as soreness/numbness/swelling/ache/tickle and so on. These feelings would suddenly appear and suddenly disappear. When having a long time observation there would be feeling hot in my body or my body merging with the world. It was very magical.
Let me talk about the people who attend this vipassana meditation course, the people most likely was facing some problems in their daily life or have some troubles of themselves,they would like to attempt to take the course to reduce the pains or fix the problems.
But there will be a problem, that is people attend the vipassana meditation course is to reduce pains but why they must observe body to perceive the uncomfortable feeling such as soreness/numbness/swelling/ache/tickle. The problem confused me. When the course finished. I understand the reasons.
The psychology explanation of vipassana meditation:
1. why people have pains? Essentially because that all the information from the external world we could not deal with it or deal with it in a proper way. For instance in china there is a social problem called corporal punishment of children in family. Long time corporal punishment will cause mental trouble. But there is a phenomenon that people born at 70’s or before 70’s , corporal punishment in family doesn’t cause mental troubles usually. What’s the reason? That’s because these generations don’t think corporal punishment is wrong especially from parents, they think these behaviors is a family rule , it’s just for love, there is no evil intention about corporal punishment. So the conclusion is : for one thing, different cognition causes different feeling and result.
2. The feelings in our body are usually uncomfortable. What is comfortable ? i think comfortable means uncomfortable feeling disappeared. Why it is ? let’s think about it , if you have an English dictionary, you look up for all the words in it to describe the body feelings, you’ll find out that all the words are express bad feelings. Such as soreness/ numbness/ swelling/ache/tickle and so on. Somebody may disagree with me , they will say happy/ exciting/joyful is not. It describes good feelings, but it’s wrong , because these words is for mental not body.
3. Essentially vipassana meditation is to build a mental suggestion for you during the observing practice. That is pain can not be avoided it comes suddenly goes suddenly. Everything is impermanence. You just observe it accept it, that’s enough.
4. When you doing these vipassana meditation you can’t talk and communicate. In these situation the information in daily life that led you feel pains disappeared. So you must be feeling better during the specific time, that is meditation time.
Conclusion:
The secret of vipassana meditation is to build a mental suggestion essentially. It will make you reduce pains and feel better. But the information let you upset and pains in the external world doesn’t disappeared. It still there. So vipassana meditation have effects on reduce pains but it’s very limited. the key issues are not handled. the only way to solve problems is to make ourselves growth and gain the problem-solving capacity in real world.
