Your Worst Nightmare Is Here. Will You Face It? [Day 5]

in #meditation6 years ago

Learning to live in silence is a great skill.
holy crap a pigeon just entered my house
Okay it's gone now, after giving me a heart attack.

So.

Silence

Why are we so afraid of it?

"Because it brings out the deepest thoughts and desires in us, to the forefront, and we do not want to face them, for whatever reasons?"

Damn, you nailed it. You don't even need me to tell you shit, son.

So ask yourself: Why do you not want to face it?

Even better:

Spend a day without doing anything (if you're jobless, dropped out and living home with parents like me).
See no wonder I'm here typing my arse off
I NEED EM MONEIZ BABY

Ahem.

If not that, then, as soon as your "obligations" are done for the day:

stay away from all forms of media(/distractions/stimulants)

be it -

  • Smartphone apps
  • Social Media
  • Laptop
  • Books
  • etc.

Essentially, yeah, I'm asking you to meditate. Because this is how meditation is:

sitting still in silence, only with your thoughts

You let them surface, to come into your mind's "eye", so that you are aware of them, and that bit can be painful because sometimes, uncomfortable feelings can pop up.

"What do you mean?"

Maybe you hurt someone yesterday, but then time passed on and here you are today, immersed in your phones and whatnot, distracted from your inner thoughts and feelings.
At that time, when you'll sit in silence, this regret feeling can come up. Now, you might feel uncomfortable facing it, but be glad. Because, this means that you're actually aware of the consequences of your actions from now on.

Which is better:

  1. Knowing the consequences of your actions
  2. Or not knowing them?

Because 1. would mean you're simply existing, whereas, 2. means that you're living.

Congrats!

Life will only get better on from this point as you become completely aware of your actions.

Another benefit?

It will also improve your memory: both short-term and long-term.
See, by remembering your feelings, you are also remembering an event - which can include many words and actions of someone else - so that means, you're also remembering those words and actions.
Isn't that what memory's about?
;)

Until Next Time

So do this, and tell me how it went.
Thanks for reading.

PS: Don't tell me that you're gonna do it.

DO IT, and THEN tell me that you DID IT.
Telling you will, never works.
Cya.

I put so many of the layers you pointed out between myself and silence! Thank you for the reminder. I’m also writing on meditation, feel free to check out my blog and followed list for some resources you might enjoy.
