Mindfulness Meditation:

A Tool for Decreasing Stress and Anxiety
Stress and anxiety are joint in today's society and can severely impair executive and general functioning. Mindfulness meditation is a technique that focuses one's attention on being in the moment and allows other thoughts and feelings to pass without judgment. Research has shown that it can decrease negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, and depression while increasing overall well-being and productivity.

Research on Mindfulness Meditation:

Research on mindfulness meditation has consistently shown its effectiveness in decreasing negative behaviors and increasing attention, awareness, and productivity. A recent study conducted at Kent State University found that mindfulness meditation can alleviate reading anxiety caused by difficulty in reading. Students who received mindfulness intervention saw a significant decrease in anxiety compared to those who only received the academic intervention.

Mini Mindfulness Session:

A mini mindfulness session was conducted to demonstrate how to practice mindfulness. Participants were asked to remove everything from their laps and get comfortable in their seats. The session focused on breathing and body scanning, which involves isolating individual parts of the body one at a time. Participants were asked to envision a light that starts in their feet and comes up through their bodies as they isolate each part. The session ended with participants returning their attention to their bodies and taking one last deep breath.

Mindfulness meditation is free, flexible, and attainable. It can be practiced for as little as five minutes a day and can be done anywhere, at any time. It is a tool that can help alleviate negative feelings caused by stress and anxiety, which are common in today's society.
