Mysterious Mountain Meditation Spot

In June of 2016, a friend and I were on a hike in the foothills near Evergreen Colorado. It was my first time hiking at this particular park, and it was a journey that has remained relevant ever since. Our trek led us up a reasonably steep incline, to a trail that was strictly for those on foot.

We hiked up until the trail leveled out, with the Rocky Mountains in view, obscured only by a few trees. After walking about another 20 yards to our right, we stumbled upon a rock circle. The location seemed intentional, as it was off the trail just slightly, and gave a viewer a great sight when they were inside the circle. My friend and I had previously discussed hiking somewhere in the mountains in order to practice meditation, as most anyone will agree that the sounds of nature provide a more calming effect than the sounds of the city.

We decided to return to the spot about once a month in order to meditate, and to continue adding our own intention to the space. First, we added more rocks around the circle. Then, we surrounded the spot with wood that was nearby. Each time we would visit the spot, we would venture around the area to see if there was anything else to discover. At one point, I discovered a mysterious, ritual-like object. Someone had tied a few pine cones to a stick, for what purpose I'm not sure.

This finding indicated to me that whoever had initially laid the rock formation had decided to use the spot for their own intention, beyond just a single random decision to lay the rocks in a circle. It dawned on me that we should attempt to make contact with whoever had been using the spot, as well as anyone that might randomly stumble upon it, just as we did.

I decided to bring a pen and notepad, and sealed it in a plastic bag in a visible spot in front of the formation. I wrote a straightforward message, as a way to start the conversation. About a month later, I went back to check and see if anyone had decided to communicate with us. A few people had decided to leave messages of their own:

We have yet to receive any direct messages from the people who started the circle. Perhaps one day they will write us back, or maybe by pure synchronicity we will randomly be there at the same time. Perhaps there is treasure buried nearby. We’ve also joked that it’s possible occultists are using this space for dark ceremonies, though that’s obviously not something we’d like to discover.

Whatever comes of this place, it’s been a fun way for my friend and I to engage in a small mystery, and to also add to the mystery ourselves. I’ll keep ya posted on any updates!
