Research Team Members wanted for Help Stop TB
The World Community Grid project 'Help Stop TB' is searching for new team members for their research. As a team member, recently graduated and moving forward, a new data analyst is wanted for the gathered data from users running BOINC.
Background
The Help TB project searches for a cure for Tuberculosis, an illness that remains one of the world's major killers from infectious deaths.

Increased illnesses
The world health organisation reported an increased number of illnesses in TB from 6.1 million in 2015 to 6.3 million in 2016.
Due to the way Tuberculosis protects itself, it can be a very difficult illness to treat, due to the bacterium it has an unusual coating consisting of fats, sugars and proteins. Besides the coating it also contains a type of fatty molecules called mycolic acids.
Analysing Molecules
The Help Stop TB project analyses these molecules through the World Community Grid platform, where it simulates the behaviour of these molecules and how they deliver proteins to the TB bacteria.
The goal is to find ways in breaking down the protective coating of the bacterium, in a way that makes little impact to the person.
Research Team Changes
As all people, researchers move on as well. As Athina Meletiou in the project now is a PhD Dr, the team is looking for new team members for the project as Athina is moving forward.
The team is reaching out, and if you're interested to work with this extremely interesting research project and loves data analysis, do read their call below.
As a result of Athina’s move, we are now actively looking for new team members, especially those with a strong interest in data science, as we now have a significant quantity of data to mine, for which we would love to apply new approaches. We also want to tackle the development of accurate membrane models, now that we have sufficient atomistic data. Applications from suitably qualified chemists, biochemists, mathematicians, engineers, and computer scientists are welcomed, both for PhD-level and postdoctoral posts.
Our opportunities include a BBSRC-funded PhD studentship available to UK/EU applicants (with applications for 2019 start to open later this year), and we have the possibility to support exceptionally talented potential students through our local PhD scholarships scheme for a start this year.
We are also happy to help support qualified applicants through our fellowships processes--these include applications for the prestigious EU-funded Marie SkÅodowska-Curie fellowships, and local Nottingham Research fellowships or Anne-McLaren fellowships (see our website for details) alongside those from the learned societies.
If you have the drive and the skills to join us, please get in touch.

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, pronounced /bɔɪŋk/ – rhymes with "oink") is a distributed work platform that has been around since 2002 (15 years now) and rewards all participants with a score. BOINC consists of over 500,000+ active users and many more computers. It is a popular platform for researchers to do large amounts of distributed work. The infrastructure is already in place, and no payment is required. Doing distributed work is purely voluntary, where users can attach any project of their choosing.
Gridcoin Research is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) cryptocurrency that rewards Proof-of-Research (PoR) for BOINC computation based on the BOINC RAC (Recent Average Credit) score. Some requirements are for projects to be listed on the platform but are relatively easy to comply. There are currently ~20+ Projects included that the network rewards work done by users.
