Interesting article, and correlation does not necessarily imply causation; maybe some of the reason for dementia is the diet, as you say in this piece.
Metformin first came to my attention due to a study that it extended the life of worms and mice. See here for example: http://www.ibtimes.com.au/us-fda-gives-ok-human-trial-metformin-anti-ageing-drug-prolong-life-until-120-years-1488127
I'm wondering if you have any further info on this, or thoughts on it? Thanks!
Thanks.
Yes there is a lot of support for metformin potentially extending life in more simple life forms but that is a lot easier to study than in humans both due to costs and the simple practical considerations like the decades required to study the same effects in people.
I will take another look when I have an opportunity to see if there are any new studies available.
It is obviously too early to see any results from new studies like the one from the article, right now we would be looking at retrospective studies for correlation data relating to lifespan.
This is obviously not ideal due to the potential for confounding factors but may give us more information to combine with the animal studies.
