Waiting For The Government

<div class="text-justify">The government of any country is tasked with many responsibilities. In some cases, and especially in third world countries, the government is in charge of everything from the distribution of utilities to the control of state resources. This has not endeared it to the people it claims to rule. As a result, the people are mostly estranged from the government and if placed in positions where they can contribute or support a particular government, there are people who would simply fold their arms and do nothing.</div>

<p>

<div class="text-justify">In certain parts of the world, the government, despite controlling utilities like water and electricity distribution as well as collecting taxes regularly, do nothing to maintain that which they control. It is mostly allowed to rot, to fall into shambles while they either build new ones or make endless speeches about the inability of the government to do anything due to lack of funds. Many people see through these things and when pushed to actively participate in helping their community salvage a problem they are reluctant to do so. Democracies no longer feel real because the governments are no longer really "for the people".</div>

<p>

<div class="text-justify">If you live on a street without drains to run water off during heavy rains, would you wait for your government to come and dig drains for you or would you attempt to find solutions to the problem yourself? Do you wait for the government to come fix the amenities and infrastructural issues that affect you seeing as how they have ignored many of those responsibilities for so long? My answer is a resounding "NO"! For our lack of water, we dig wells and if we can afford it, we sink boreholes. For the erratic and unstable electricity issues, we buy generators and if we can afford it, we install solar panels to convert natural energy. For the terrible roads, we opt for motorbikes or buy rugged cars that wouldn't fall apart when they ply the pot-hole infested roads. You see, we do not wait for the government; we have become "do it yourself" experts...Lol!</div>
