Musing.io- Ask Questions, Provide answers and earn Cryptocurrency [Review]
Intro
Social media is one of the outcomes of the information age, irrespective of how hoe developed or underdeveloped a Nation is. It remains one of the psychological tools in each of these social settings. A social engineering too used by the authority (centralised Government) to reach out to its citizens, fortunately this is the era of decentralization, the information age is evolving and out of which came the Blockchain Technology which cryptocurrencies are built upon, technologist and smart innovators are harnessing this potential, combining social media with cryptocurrency to create crypto social Dapps which is not centrally controlled and benefits both users and the creators.
Just like Quora and AskGoogle are off the chain and probably censored media outlets, these two and several other out there answers all your enquiries per click of a button, just ask and there is always an answer for you satisfactorily or less satisfied. Now imagine a non-censored decentralized platform that serves the same purpose but on the Blockchain, which made it accessible to all and sundry while rewarding each persons with cryptocurrency, this where Musing.io comes in handy.
What Musing Does?
Musing.io is a platform like its off-the-chain counterparts Quora, AskGoogleApp, a Dapp builtto gain and share knowledge, created by Jonathan Ching. Active since its launch in May 2018 and developed on the Steem Blockchain where users are rewarded with Steem Tokens.
stateofthedapps
Ranked number 70 on State of the Dapp, musing.io is under the media category having dozens others a on the same list.
Unlike Quora, a user activities or engagement (asking questions and providing answers) earns you a reward, despite the platform ranking on State of the Dapps at number 70; it was one of the top media Dapp of 2018. Unfortunately, its performance begins to wane by end of 2018 due to the long bear markets and the rise of other sophisticated Dapps (DrugWars, SteemMonsters etc.) that’s dominating the 2019 performance so far.
How to get started
Musing Dapp could be accessed both on PCs and mobile devices, although without a native App yet it could be accessed readily by Steem User via Steemconnect using their Steem account login details while non-steem users have to register with Steem first (either by signing up on Steem or through Stem Ninja).
Once successfully signed in or logged in, it easy to use and navigate unlike other complex apps, just by following the command prompt per action to be performed, to ask a question; a button is visible (with a plus sign) which means add/insert your question, responding to questions is also easy by clicking on the answer button.
Both questions and answers could get upvotes (monetary rewards in crypto value), the value of upvote varies based on the vested share of the benefactor (upvoter), and the merit (how informative) the question or answer is just like Steemit, another top Ranked and the foremost Dapp on the steem Blockchain.
Turn On
- Easy to use, simple navigation just like Quora, and reward earning per activity.
- Each token earned could be used to power-up a user’s vested shares in their Steem account or be converted to fiat for spending.
- Another advantage is that, without lengthy articles (blogging), just by providing honest and decent answers to questions, users could earn decent amount in token.
- It is web based and it could be accessed on any device and Operating system both on PC, Android and IOS
Turn Off
- Firstly, it should be made available for everyone across the globe both on the Steem Blockchain and off the chain. To be able to use musing.io means a user needs to have a steem account which is could be a major setback.
- Secondly, from different Dapp reviews, musing is not gaining in rank, it kept dropping i.e. from 61 to 71 and it’s not among the top media dapps of 2019.
- Furthermore, daily users dropped as well as rewards. The incentives were majorly affected by the long bear market and that caused musing losing its delegations hence the drop in incentives which is directly proportional to user activities.
- Also, user activities waned probably because there was no native app that could be installed on devices likes its counterparts.
- Lastly, some quality of questions and answers provided are not meritable in relative to the incentives been given out, but of course same thing goes for other centralised platforms like Quora, AskGoogleApp and so on.
Concluding Remarks
A big thumbs up to the founder of musing, (Jonathan Ching) for this brilliant idea of rewarding engagement and also for creating another potential Dapp on the Steem Blockchain. Nevertheless, I hope there are improvement on the dapp, like the quality of questions and answers been provided must be scrutinized in other to be eligible for a reward. It should also be accessible to all users both on and off the Steem Blockchain, and finally, maybe a native app should be created for example @esteem app @partiko and so on. These I recommend constructively to increase both user base and a to attract investors, these in turn might boost its ranking on stateofthedapp.
I would give musing a 3/5 rating, thanks for reading.
