The media is a cesspool.
"An explosion at New York's Rainbow Bridge border crossing with Canada has been labeled a traffic incident by authorities after media outlets initially reported that it was a terrorist attack."
One day after is still early, so this could change again. But it's a good reminder that initial reports are almost always BS.
The media has to rush to get something out, anything, in order to get the money-making clicks, and "terrorism" will generate more clicks than "car crash." No matter how thoughtful or cautious some individual media folks may be, for any given situation like this, somebody at NBC is necessarily responsible for making sure their company gets its share of the clicks.
The media is a cesspool. As far as I can tell, looking back as far as political journalism at the founding of this country, it always has been, which suggests it's just the nature of the business.
Nonetheless, it's critical that we have it. So hooray for the First Amendment, and be damned to Biden Administration officials who have tried to arrogate to themselves the authority to determine what media sources the public can have ready access to.
