SoundCloud is f*cked

The golden age of SoundCloud looks like it could well be over.

The company recently axed 40% of their staff in order to ensure “long-term” success.

Tragic, considering it's the largets body of independent music in the world...

I watch Benny Boy listening to new music every day with about 30 different SoundCloud tabs open on his computer in the George office.

And with huge artists like Mr. Carmack, Post Malone, Kygo, Kehlani, Hucci, and our very own Montell2099 starting their music careers off the back of their success on the music streaming platform, SoundCloud is a haven for both producers and music lovers alike, to share, discover and connect over music.

So, what this shit has gone wrong?

TechCrunch has done a detailed report on the company, even talking to a number of the recently slashed employees.

On morale, an anonymous employee of SoundCloud said, “It’s pretty shitty. Pretty somber. I know people who didn’t get the axe are actually quitting. The people saved from this are jumping ship. The morale is really low.”

Someone else described the situation as a “shit show”.

And another source revealed the founders Alex Ljung and Eric Wahlforrs have actually admitted the “long-term success” they were chasing by firing half their team, in reality will only just tie them over to the Q4…

So, "long-term" turns into 50 days…

Shit scary, considering it’s the world’s biggest collection of independent music and in a couple months it could well disappear off the face of the internet...

The company is looking for investors.

But I’d start start downloading those saved tunes now team… better be safe than sorry. And there’s a shitload of music on there that can’t be found anywhere else...
