John Vallis #4: MDMA as Medicine - Rick Doblin
Rick Doblin is the Founder and Executive Director of MAPS - the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.
Rick founded MAPS in 1986, and since then has been working tirelessly to fund and carry out research and advocacy on Psychedelic substances, as well as Marijuana, in order to establish a scientific foundation for their safety and efficacy as medicine for a variety of conditions, and eventually, as life-enhancing substances for the broader population.
Their primary focus has been on the development of 'MDMA assisted psychotherapy' for the treatment of PTSD. The results of their studies for this use case have been outstanding, and have garned widespread support from the Psychiatric community as well as government regulators, who have granted 'Breakthrough Therapy Status' to this treatment, in order to accelerate it's development into medicine for those in need.
MAPS is currently in Phase 3 trials for this therapy, and still have much work to do in order to make this medicine available to those who could benefit greatly from it. If their work is meaninful to you, please consider supporting them in any way you can at maps.org.
