What do hemp offers us?

Hemp is one of the oldest cultivated plants, which was known and valued mainly for its healing properties. Although it has accompanied us for thousands of years, we still know little about where and when it began to benefit. Alzheimer's, cancer, glaucoma, Dravet's syndrome, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, inflammatory bowel diseases and many, many other conditions are susceptible to cannabis treatment. Among these are also diseases that do not just affect our body but our mind. Over 1 878 988 people in Poland are affected by depression and anxiety (WHO data from 2017). Thanks to the influence of hemp on cannabinoid receptors in our bodies, they have the ability to stimulate the hippocampus to regenerate. The very fact that neurogenesis is occurring in the human brain sheds new light on the mechanism of mental disorders we have known so far. The hippocampus is an extremely interesting part of our brain and its capabilities are still the subject of much research among scientists. The efficiency with which it functions has an impact on various diseases such as depression. Why? People who are struggling with depression are often diagnosed as having a smaller hippocampus. Unfortunately, the therapies known so far do not bring the desired results. The discovery of scientists from the University of Brazil and King's College that compounds contained in hemp modify the receptors of serotonin 5-HT 1A gives people suffering from depression a chance to make the struggle with the disease easier and the therapy has begun to bring the desired results. Dysfunction of this particular receptor leads to depressive and anxiety states, and cannabinoids, thanks to their properties and the possibility of influencing it, increase the production of serotonin and dopamine, thus effectively reducing the feeling of constant anxiety. Another advantage of cannabis is time. In the case of cannabidiol, the effect is felt much faster than in psychotropic drug therapies used so far (2 weeks). An additional advantage of treatment with cannabidiol in this type of disease is the fact that it does not react with other drugs, so people interested in this type of therapy will not be forced to interrupt their existing pharmacological treatment.
