DO YOU KNOW WHAT MAKES THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY UNIQUE? (5 MINUTE READ)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #mba7 years ago

Sometimes I wonder if a long time ago they did not perhaps have better models of asset, and shipping vessel finance than we have today.

If we would just take the time to investigate them. And think about how to apply them in modern circumstances and environments. Just a thought, I could be totally wrong of course.

Another factor is the financialization of the economy...

...as well as perhaps our modern day obsession with the concept of democracy. The solution for many problems in a country. Not that it isn't. I just think sometimes we need to ensure we are on the same page with regards to how we define what it is. In developing countries like South Africa for instance, people will say, "WOW, twenty years after democracy and we still have this problem!" Like racism. I am not saying that it wouldn't, but maybe we need to examine what the effect of democracy is on not only racism, but our perception of what racism means and why it is a bad thing.

I believe concepts such as these may have been twisted...

...yes, to such an extent that they have lost its original meaning.   Many countries adopted democracy to appease investors and the US but in reality are they really democracies or does it just make it easier to be corrupt.

South Africa maybe an example right now?

And what does it mean? If it means government by the people for the people, is that what we see in democracies?  But things are changing in South Africa, it has a wonderful future.

Also the capitalism/socialism obsession

Why does there have to be one or the other, look at Germany, they combine the two. Ask me how...

Anyway, tangent rant finished, back to business...

The obsession with these concepts as well as fiat money may have blinded us. The unintended consequence of excluding certain extremely effective forms of asset finance.

And I feel like the shipping industry is a good place to take as a case study

To investigate this possible phenomenon. Why? Because the ocean, that vast multiverse of beauty with its abyss-like mystery - another poetic tangent coming up, OK I shall resist it... levels the playing field. Changes in the economy are not so easy to apply to the shipping industry, especially ship finance industry, as they are to other industries.

One more quick fine print rant... the bubble - ization of the media industry - have you watched the movie Wag the Dog? - it is about how the media creates news out of news and/or nothing, may have had a hand in the democratization of democracy.
