RE: SAT MATH PROBLEM (3) Contest Winners and Solution!

in #mathematics7 years ago (edited)

oh I did it on an other way.

I started with calculating the 8 x 13 square, which is 104. Then substracting the 2 rectangles, which were 8 x 8 x 0.5 and 2 x 2 x 0.5 (=34 total), which made 70.

Then the semicircle was 0.5 x π x 3.5^2 = 19.24

So 70+19.24 = 89.24

Thanks for hosting this contest & thanks for the prize :P
Have a nice SteemLife further on :)

That's awesome! Thanks for posting your thought process! It's always good to see it in other perspectives!

What does SAT stand for though?

Many ways to the solution. I think @pizzachain came up with the easiest and thus the best approach.

Here is how I divided in my head also using a calculator for half circle.

SAT
"Introduced in 1926, its name and scoring have changed several times; originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, it was later called the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT I: Reasoning Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test, and now, simply the SAT."
