Many intelligent people have been trying to get a device or machine into perpetual motion for centuries.

Can we set something in motion to the affect that it never stops? - NO - not according to the Laws of Nature. We will never be able to keep something going forever, except if we apply some sort of energy to the machine or device.

What is perpetual motion?

There are many definitions for perpetual motion:

A state in which movement or action appears to be continuous or unceasing.1
Example a planet is in perpetual motion.
the motion of a hypothetical machine which, once activated, would run forever unless subject to an external force or to wear.2
"the age-old quest for the secret of perpetual motion"
Perpetual motion is motion of bodies that continues indefinitely. This is impossible because of friction and other energy-dissipating processes.3
, but it all boils down to the same thing:

The financial industry or financial eco-system is in perpetual motion

Well, not really into perpetual motion - but if we look at the financial industry or financial ecosystem - it is kind of in Perpetual Motion. I guess that there is enough chaos in the financial industry with the various influences that we see on a daily basis. I am speaking about things like traders doing business on a willing buyer / willing seller basis. We have banks running their numbers every day. You have your salary coming into your bank account and then debit orders running at the end of each month. Cash exchanges hands on a daily basis. And so forth ...

My point is that the financial system or the world as we know it, continues without any real effort from anybody to keep it going. It just keep on going as a result of enough chaos, if you ask me.

Or is it really?

We have a close to perpetual environment in motion, but just like the laws of nature, nothing can go stay in perpetual motion without adding some energy to it at some point. Our daily usage, like the stuff mentioned above, traders, money exchanging hands etc. This is the energy which keeps this financial eco-system fueled , and this is the energy what keep the system going.

However if something major should happen, like all stock exchanges globally are hacked and stopped at the same time. Another world war! or there are many examples which can reduce the energy and stop the perpetual motion of this beast! many things can have a massive effect on the financial eco-system as we know it today. I am not saying we must hack the whole financial system, it will only cause chaos.

The steem engine

@dan and @ned has done an wonderful job over a very short period of time, to create this amazing platform. I am sure that there are many noobs that see this as the next step of evolution to a much greater social media platform. Sure Steemit is a wonderful social media platform. To be honest, it is the only social media platform that I am actually using. And to my own surprise, it is not at all about the money… yes in the beginning I though this is now an easy way to make money. This is however that last thing on my mind when I think about Steemit today. This platform is shared by all of us, and the people on here is so diverse and different, yet everybody is chatting and posting away.

However there is a bigger picture to look at.

So setting something into perpetual motion is not possible without adding some sort of energy, and if we look at the financial eco-system, which we are all using on a daily basis. At the end of the day, we are the energy the drives the machine!

Calling all Anarcho-Capitalists!, let's stop using the financial system and only use Cryptocurrecy to live by on a day-to-day basis. Let's burn down all the stock exchanges, let's start a war !!

Well, except if I am missing something - this will also not work except for causing CHAOS . We we stop using the financial system, we will also die of hunger, and sleep on the street and at the end of the day BEG people for something that we did not want to use in the first place! MONEY!

However if we all work together, by building a community around this platform. We need to first embrace, then enhance and finally extend this platform into new horizons. New applications is being created on the platform on a daily basis! I can also promise you that more and more new applications will come to this platform. We need to support these applications on an ongoing basis. The community will grow, the usage of steem will grow.

Shifting our energy

There are however only one of two possible outcomes here. At some point in our lives the STEEM engine will either die OR we can start shifting our energy that we currently add to the perpetual motion of the financial eco-system into the initiation of our own machine which will eventually also go move into perpetual motion.

We are in control of our own destiny ... to create the means of shifting our energy to drive the STEEM engine of perpetual motion.
