A very interesting problem. Collatz conjecture seems so simple but the proof eludes the greatest mathematical minds of our time, much like Fermat's last theorem did until late last century. I'm somewhat disappointed that the Collatz conjecture isn't one of the Millennium Prize Problems, apparently this is because its usefulness outside the field of computer science is questionable.
