1 + (1 x 4) = 5
2 + (2 x 5) = 12
3 + (3 x 6) = 21
8 + (8 x 11) = 96

The answer is right but the method is much simpler if you apply the method shown . Lord dickhead there was on the right track but blamed the education system for being wrong.

1+4=5(<)
(5+2)+5=12(<)
(12+3)+6=21(<)
(21+8)+11 = 40 !!!!!
