Multiply Fractions Made EASYsteemCreated with Sketch.

When it comes to multiply fractions I have seen many students struggle a lot to get the final simplified answer. Actually there are two ways to multiply fractions (First method I learned here in Canada and the second one I learned in India when I used to teach maths there). I find both methods very consistent and students choose one of them based on their country and basic fraction understanding.

Below are both the methods explained in step by step lessons:

First Method To Multiply Fractions: This is very simple method. Just multiply numerator of first fraction to the numerator of the second fraction to get the numerator of the answer.

Similarly multiply the denominator of the first fraction to the denominator of the second fraction to get the denominator of the answering fraction.

Then reduce the answering fraction into lowest terms to get your answer.

Below is a step  by step explanation of this method:

Second method to multiply fractions: I name this method as the cutting method to multiply fractions. Actually in this method you reduce the fractions before you multiply them. Needs  a little practice to develop this skill but very powerful and time saving method to multiply fractions. Below is the explanation of this method in steps:

Below is another lesson based on cutting method to multiply fractions but it explains how multiply a whole number to a fraction and how to multiply mixed numbers:
