History of Egyptian Mathematics

Egyptians were one of the pioneers who used mathematics other than just counting, 6000 years ago (approximately). No evidence found about how Egyptians reached their mathematical conclusions. But they must have had an advanced understanding of mathematics because they used it heavily in engineering, astronomy and administration.

Evidence exist indicating the use of a well developed number system, measurement and fractions.  Papyrus was used as the writing material by Egyptians to write on. Word Paper is derived from Papyrus. Huge collection of papyrus literature on medicine, art and mathematics by Egyptians exists. A remarkable number of papyri, some dating from 2,500 BC old have been found.

The most important Mathematical Papyri found on Egyptian Mathematics are; Rhind Mathematical Papyrus and Moscow Mathematical Papyrus   Both the Papyri are discussed in detailed in the following pdf file;

I really like your series so far!

I have a question on the Egyptian circle: How is the area calculated exactly? I can see that you could just multiply the the area of one of the squares with 7 and should have a very close approximation, was that the way they used it?

You nailed it @thatgerman dude. They trisected the side of the squared outside the circle and then just find the area of one square and multiply it by 7. Thanks you for all your support, your comments are complements for my posts :)

It's more of a joke than a complement. lol

Ha haha! Jokes are complements, need to see from that "angle"!

You should check out other Yogi Berra quotes. The man was brilliant in his stupidity.

Doge is little bit lower. I can give ya 2 satoshi for 1000 Doges!!

Great series @@@mathworksheets, and this “episode” goes beyond math. Upvoted & resteemed, of course 😊

Thanks a lot my friend. Your support is much much appreciated :)

Good info, upvoted and resteemed mathworksheets.

And wonder why lots of mathematics genius can be found in India? :)

Thank you dear @juvyjabian for stopping by and for the kind remarks :)

Nice history lesson. Egyptians had great technology back then.

Thanks for stopping by @businesswri. Yes our ancestors were equally intelligent!

Cool. I'll check that PDF out at my leisure. Did you make the PDF yourself?

No, the link takes you to the a university site and the e-book prepared by them.

This is a great way to answer the common student question "why do I need to learn math" because math is used to build societies.
