Why I will not be going to Mars...Part 2... it's too light weight

in #mars8 years ago

When it comes to human habitable planets, among other things, mass does matter when it comes to Gravity.

As can be seen above mars Mars has significantly less gravity than earth.

Now this is great for jumping etc. but it's not so great for the body.

The human body has been evolved to the state its currently in on this planet and its fit for purpose here.

When you leave an astronaut up in the space station for a couple of months the body reacts adversely to the weightless conditions.

For one... the bones lose mass and density.

In simple terms the astronaut gets a bad case of osteoporosis. That's why they need to be carried around until they have undergone sufficient rehabilitation to re-strengthen the bones.

On mars you'll experience 62% less gravity, be significantly lighter and extra special precautions and activities are going to be required to keep you in shape and fit... and that's just the things we know about from short stays on the international space station.

I wonder what other nasties will crop up in a long term stay in weight conditions the human body is not used too.

Sort:

I do know that the quickest way for these Astronauts to get back to normal after an extended trip to space is by applying the same frequency to their bodies as that at which a cat purrs at! BTW that's how a cat ( and other animals ) repair damage to bones, muscles etc

I knew purring was good for cats... but exactly how I didn't know... goodie... another research project for my aspergers

So the promise of crippling physical disabilities isn't enough to sign you up for the Mars trip?

I think that says it all... along with a slow roast in a microwave oven

This is the branch of science that is lacking, that I replied about on your previous post. It actually has very little to do with gravity.

We are built for an environment with certain permanent amounts of resistance and opposition, take that away, or reduce it by more than half, and all kinds of things have the potential to unravel.
