Relationship is about peace and happiness. When you love someone, you are expected to have some level of happiness and peace.

You just want to see her happy and she should want to see him happy too. It’s what couples should do for each other; sacrificially make each other happy, and he or she doesn't need to know you stretched yourself to make that birthday memorable. Doesn’t matter. A lot of people, after they have done something for their spouse, to let the other partner know the extent of what they have done and how they did it, they let their partner understand the stress they went through just to get it done. That is wrong. Your partner doesn't need to know or shove it in their faces so they can appreciate it. The truth is, the moment you start letting them understand the extent you went, there is no appreciation again. If it is with me, i will only think you wanted to impress me and make me appreciate what you did better because you felt i might not appreciate it enough. Right there and then, i won't value that stuff again. I am a strategic thinker.

Don't act normal or treat those who genuinely care about you as normal. Treat them with love and respect and kindly do things that make them happy. Once you notice something makes your spouse happy, be intentional about doing it often. If you treat them casually, you have lot the plot. Leke Alder said and i quote:

Genuine affection should never be traded. We need to let go of our controlling effect and focus more on loving and caring for our partner. Having their needs high up there saves a lot because when it comes from both, it saves a whole lot of drama, and when even a simple compliment or gesture has to be forced out of you, that kind of gesture or compliment loses its value.
