I see that you use GIMP. I love GIMP, but have an older version--2.8. I wonder if it's worth updating or if I'll just make more trouble for myself. I'll read up and see what the conversation on the Internet is about the new version, I guess.
Good luck with the design. I think Steemit should appeal not only to the pocketbook, but also to emotions. Most successful marketing campaigns do.

I'm not sure if much has changed on GIMP but I only started learning photo editing 2 months ago and GIMP appealed because it is free lol
I like the first one better....of course, I have no financial sense. But the first one catches the eye and gets me to look longer. The second, I think, the words right there, on top, interfere with the emotional punch. If you look at Super Bowl commercials--I don't watch the Super Bowl but am interested in the way companies try to manipulate markets--sometimes their ads are pure emotion. A puppy. A baby. Same thing with car commercials. They don't announce the name of the car upfront. They show you an incredibly successful person, leading a dream life, and make you want to be in that life (not me!). Once they've got your attention, they hit you with the product. That's what I think your first picture does. Fun! Adventure! The future! Where? Steemit!

Ha ha, you are absolutely right. I used to work in marketing at one point but it really didn't agree with me tbh. I think I probably knew the first one was better deep down but wanted to try and put a bit more effort in the editing with the border on the lettering. Sometimes simpler is better though and the white letters on the black background at the bottom has more impact as well as not interfering with the inspirational imagery.
