During the COVID-19 crisis, you may have noticed that your customer base is waning. It’s likely your customers are feeling the economic impacts of COVID-19, as we all are. If you want to come out of this on the other side, and even grow your business just like these companies during this time, it’s important to take a good, hard look at your digital marketing practices.

Having coached and trained over 1500 entrepreneurs to find success in their respective ventures, I know firsthand how powerful digital marketing can be, and how much it can help a business or venture flourish.

But on the flipside, when mishandled, digital marketing can stall your business, or even lead to a backslide. That’s why I think it’s crucial to implement these best digital marketing practices, during the COVID-19 crisis.

Find ways to make your product essential

During this time, many of your customers simply don’t have the budget they had a few short months ago. They may have decided that your product, or whatever your offering, is no longer essential, or a necessity, and that it’s something they can do without.

This can be a death sentence for your business. My first digital marketing tip is for you to come up with ways to make your product or business essential to your customers.

To do this, you may have to get creative. Here’s my quick tip: try focusing your marketing efforts on a lesser-used feature of your product, or reimagining your campaigns, to make your product feel like a must-have, even during this time.

Stay relevant on social, even if business is quiet

Your business might be very quiet during this time, but that doesn’t mean you should disappear off of the map. Even if your business is completely shut down right now, you should still be focusing on how you can grow your social audience.

What kind of “evergreen” content can you tap into? For example, a tourism company may be on pause right now, but they can post inspiring photos and captions, which excites people to travel with them in the future.

Give continued value to your audience

A great practice to bolster your digital marketing during the COVID-19 crisis is to come up with ways you can give continued value to your audience. Use your platform, brand, and audience, to come up with a unique offering. It can be something related to your brand, that you can expand upon.

For example, if you sell vitamins and supplements, write blog posts which are relevant to your customers, about which vitamins and supplements will best serve them while working from home, or if they’re trying to boost their immune system. Find ways to give continued value to your audience, so they come to your pages, trusting you’ll have something to offer them.

Use this time to optimize your digital marketing techniques

If you don’t currently utilize digital marketing techniques, your website is not SEO optimized, and you don’t currently have a digital marketing plan in place, now is a great time to start. Especially if you’re experiencing a lull in your business, you can take advantage of this down time to brush up on your digital marketing skills, come up with a solid plan for your business, and find a mentor who can guide you to success.

Digital marketing can be a powerful tool for your business, but you’re the one who has to tap into its potential.
