How to Make Your Message Go Viral...
The Author Jim Davies from Riveted: The Science of Why Jokes Make Us Laugh, Movies Make Us Cry, and Religion Makes Us Feel One with the Universe speaks in his book about 6 rules:
1.We are interested in stories.
Humans are a story telling animal, stories it not only sticks, it mesmerizes. It is a short cut for the memory.
2.We pay particular attention to things we hope or fear.
Reward and punishment or the pleasure-pain principle by Sigmund Freud.
"All animals instinctively seek things that bring them pleasure and avoid things that bring them pain"
3. We delight in finding patterns.
Just remember the last repetitive pop song your heard (Work, work, work, work, work, work / You see me I be work, work, work, work, work, work / You see me do me dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt ).
How it stuck in your memory. The brain is always searching for constancy and patterns.
4. We are attracted to incongruity, apparent contradictions, novelty, and puzzles.
The irony is that the patterns we love after a while become too predictable, and we get bored.
To catch attention you have to surprise people, speak something in a way t never heard before.
5. The nature of our bodies affects what kinds of things draw us...
We are driven by our senses. Experiences that use more senses stick, T.V. is more powerful than radio because it uses 2 senses.
Think now why sex is so powerful, it is one of the only experiences that involves all senses at high intensity at once.
6. We have certain psychological traits, many of which are evolved, that make us like and dislike, believe and disbelieve.
Many of these traits I already exposed here but if you wanna read further you can search for the 25 cognitive biases. We, humans, are predictable. Once you tap into the evolved traits, persuasion is easy.
Revisit your website or your business marketing and see what needs to be adjusted to match up better with these 6 rules so that you can compel, fascinate, and persuade everyone you meet.
Which rule is your favorite?
