Market Friday - Various Live Plants and Flowers

in #marketfriday4 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Steemians! Today is Friday so it is time to make an entry for the #marketfriday tag which was initiated by @dswigle! I think this is the only tag that I follow up and post almost every week because I find it interesting and love taking pictures when I go around including grocery shopping lol :D I do my grocery shopping in AEON Big supermarket and that is where I saw some live plants that can be kept at home or in our garden.

These are some of the plants that were available. The one on top is called empress tree plant which belongs to the foxglove tree family. The plant on the bottom left is an interesting plant called 'lidah jin' in the local Malay language which directly translates to genie tongue in English. However, the English name is sanseviera. Some of the common names are snake plant, snake's tongue and mother-in-law's tongue. They are great air-purifiers as the absorb carbon dioxide at night and release oxygen during the day. The plant in the bottom middle is called peacock plant while the one on the bottom right is called Chinese evergreen.

These are sweet basil plants. They act as mosquito repellent. However, they produce a lot of nectar and may attract bees and butterflies.

The above are herbal plants. The plant on the left is bear's paw which are native to Africa. They have teeth on the edges which resemble the paws of bears. The plant on the right is Indian mint which has medicinal properties and it is good to be consumed especially when we are not well.

There were also some flowering plants. The plants on the left and in the middle are of the same species. They are chrysanthemum. The one on the right is a rose plant.

These are bougainvillea flower plants. They are not just pleasant to look at, they also stay fresh and last longer than most other flowers.

On the left are more bougainvillea plants whereas on the right are monterey cypress. I have bought the plant on the right before. Unfortunately it did not last long. I think it was due to the warm tropical weather. It dried not long after although I did pour water and kept it indoor.

This plant is called dumb cane. It grows fast and can get taller so a large space is needed.

These are a variety of cactus plants. They were small and can be even kept on desks.

This is another herbal plant called Spanish stonecrop.

Then, there were a few chilli plants.

These are some Boston fern that come in hanging pots. They make nice decorative plants. That is all for my this week's #marketfriday post. I hope that the natural greens make your day happier. Thank you for dropping by and have a great day ahead! ☺☺☺

P.S. The app that I used to identify some of the plants is PictureThis. Click here to check it out. All we have to do is upload a picture of a flower or plant and it will help us to identify it.
