Market Friday - Brazilian Street Festival in New York City
This is my contribution to #marketfriday challenge hosted by the lovely @dswigle.
Today I am taking you to a street festival in Manhattan that happened on Sunday. It was Brazilian day, so it was a Brazilian festival, without a parade. Let’s go!
From where I live (Jersey City), people take public transportation to get into the city, as there is no parking whatsoever. So I took a 🚌. It was crowded; people standing... very unusual for a Sunday. Well... it looks like many of my neighbors are going to the festival.
Arrived. Crowds outside Port Authority bus terminal. The whole area is very crowded in general. Today I see many tourists, maybe more than normal.
No wonder! There is live music in Times Square. A popular Brazilian singer performing live. How beautiful! I wish I knew his name. He is awesome, I enjoyed his music. Everybody was hyped!
Now let’s go shopping. There are many booths, I took many pictures, but I will share just a few. I love African Art, so I must share this one.
This lady in green dress is selling some mini figurines made with wire and beads, like I saw in some posts by @papilloncharity. I couldn’t go too close to take pictures because vendors don’t really like that.
Canvas art, some interesting paintings....
And of course handmade jewelry!
It’s lunchtime so let’s get something to eat! Many, many places and dishes to choose from. Greek, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, Thai cuisine... you name it.
Hmmm... fruit smoothies...
That was my winner: mozzarepas!!! I bought myself a hot arepa stuffed with fresh mozzarella and enjoyed it a lot!
I am ending this post with a picture I took looking up while resting on a bench [after burning my mouth with that delicious but very hot mozzarepa].
What cool shots and interesting things in the market I do love the street markets in the city you never know what you will find
Street fairs are cool... the only problem is that sometimes it gets really crowded, especially in NYC. St. Gennaro Festival will start soon in Little Italy, aren’t you going?
I have been to that one a couple of times but probably won't go again I hate crowds lOL
Street market sounds like a fun outing, I don't like crowds, on the other hand you had cool music to listen to soothing that away.
You lucky you found somewhere to sit and enjoy your hot lunch, even if it nipped you back in eagerness to have some @starjewel
That’s right, I was lucky to find a place to sit. Some streets fair are way to crowded, I don’t like when it gets like that.
Thank you for the mention my friend and I will have a Peking duck and a Mozzarepa for lunch Lol.
A great post here!
Blessings!
Of course I had to mention you. I remember those posts you wrote about the beading artists there. And duck? Eeewwww after I saw those hanging.... I don’t want to eat that... anyway I am not big on meat. Mozzarepa was delicious.
You are wonderful my friend.
Blessings!
Great post, I love all these different markets!!
Yes, street festivals are so much fun, especially in fall...the weather is lovely here.
I love street markets like this. There's always something beautiful and interesting to see!
Thank you very much for the article and photos!
Oh, I am a sucker for looking up to the sky!!! I am always shooting looking up shots, I just love them!
What a wild time to be in New York City, one of my most favorite places on Earth! :) I really like that African art, but I realize that the vendors really can be cranky if you start taking pictures of their merchandise. I am not sure if they think we are going to copy it or what, I sure would love to know.
Oh, the food!!! And you made such a great choice!! It makes me want one, right now! That festival is always fun and usually crowded. The last time I went to it was in 1998 I think, and I would go again if I lived close enough. Oh, there is something fun about street fairs! :)
Thank you for taking us along! You are such a fun hostess!
#MarketFriday loves you!
