Money must circulate, best move is going from one to another. Thus appeared the trade. When I learned that those who market earn more than those who produce. I was amazed. Later I understood.
Today, Friday, we remember where we spent the money or not necessarily spent them as we searched for what to spend. I was unsure what to present today but a movie helped me. My favorite movie of all time, Blow-up!
I have seen the movie so many times that I can almost tell it sequence by sequence. Many times, some of my activities make me remember certain scenes from the movie. Today, trying to find a theme suitable for my blog, I remembered a dialogue between the character in the film and a young woman from a small antique shop who told her she wants to go to Morocco, because she no longer supports antiques. .. "Morocco? Morocco is full of antiques." It seems like a meaningless story for those who don't know the movie but that doesn't matter now. It is important to me because I found the theme ...
Antiques!
Antiquities are sought after by many people. Some invest in old objects knowing that their value will increase with the passing of years, others are passionate collectors and others simply buy one item to decorate the house with (or to make a gift!). I belong to the last category.
Antiques can be bought at the corner of the street, displayed on a sidewalk of generally dubious people, can be bought from sumptuous shops or at auction or can be bought from specialized fairs. This is what I want to present now, an antique fair that is offered every weekend at Pallace Mall in Iasi. A fair with regular sellers, with small items for small buyers, for all wallets.
The prices are negotiable, they are not high and there are many objects that are worth buying. But what can be bought?
In principle, everything. The irony is that if you go to the fair looking for something, that object will not be found. It is best to choose something on the spot, from the offer on the stalls.
That's about the offer, part of it, because of course I didn't manage to cover everything and it would be exhausting. I try to group by object categories ...
Tableware. Silver or not, old models.
Porcelain, plates and cups
Vinyls and gramophones
African masks
I don't know how original are because I'm not a connoisseur..
Furniture
All kinds of clocks and watches
Phones and cameras
And many, many other objects that I no longer have the patience to sort into groups. However, such a fair is characterized by mixing as many exhibits, different from each other.
Now, about my choice. What I wanted to buy for myself. Well, after the accident that hit my spine I think I need a walking stick.
In the end I didn't buy, I wanted a walking stick with a silver head and I didn't find it. Maybe next week.
I'm going over this now. End with a flower, as @dswigle gets used to every time. Thank you!
The first #MarketFriday this year. I hope to count as many by the end of the year.
Of course, this is awesome!! One of my very favorite stores to go to is where they sell antiques! Which is ridiculous because I am 99% looker, and only 1% buyer. But, I really enjoy looking and touching some of the old items that have seen life long ago and far away!
Many of the things are ornate and are not built that way anymore, but, it would not fit in my house, I just like to look at them. Some of those old clocks you show don't even work, but, they could make it work and how beautiful would that be to have a piece of something that my grandfather might have had?
Your posts show some very extraordinary pieces, some pieces are thrown together to make sets, but, someone who loves antiques doesn't mind the disorder. Although most here seem to be in order.
I have to wonder if those masks from Africa are authentic? Even pieces I am familiar with are hard to figure out if they are real or manufactured to look old. I want to thank you for bringing this wonderful post to my #MarketFriday doorstep! I appreciate all the time and effort that it took to put it together! Thank you and Happy New Year, Dan~!
Carlo Ponti was a great director in this film. I watched it probably about ten years ago, maybe less, but it sure was an oldie then and as my father said a real goodie. :) I was going to post a trailer from the movie, but, it doesn't show the meaning behind the antiques in it. You have to see the whole movie. And as always, I love the flowers!
I knew very well that you are passionate about antiques and please believe me that for this reason I wanted to write about antiques in this first post of 2020. As a tribute to you, because you had this wonderful idea to propose such of challenge.
As I told you, I am a film lover and at least until 2000 I was very well informed.
Because I know a lot about Blow-up I have to correct you and I trust that you will not be upset.
It is true that on a generic basis he writes ... a film by Carlo Ponti but Carlo Ponti (Sophia Loren's husband) is only the producer.
The director (one of my favorite directors) is Michelangelo Antonioni.
