New York's 21st Congressional nominee Patrick Nelson announced that he will accept donations in bitcoin format for the financing of his electoral campaign in 2018

Nelson, an enthusiast of former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and current staff member of the New York legislature, announced through his official Twitter account that he will be accepting donations of bitcoins for his campaign through the Bitpay platform .

Patrick Nelson believes that this move could be a pillar of support for emerging technologies and a way to modernize the system.

Nelson is not the first in his class, as other US politicians have found in Bitcoin a good ally to fund election campaigns. For example, Senator Rand Paul has been one of the first to promote Bitcoin for political donations, in conjunction with presidential candidate Gary Johnson. Donald Trump, on the other hand, launched the digital currency, Trump Coin, a currency parallel to the dollar that could be acquired in fiat or bitcoins to finance his presidential campaign.

This new bitcoin trend among American politicians is due to the fact that the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) decreed in 2014 that electoral candidates could buy, accept donations, and disburse bitcoins with a view to building campaign funds Policies.

Candidates will have about 10 days to sell the donated BTCs and deposit those funds into the private account of the campaign. Likewise, politicians have the possibility of buying bitcoins in exchange offices of the country with the aim of paying services through them or selling them to generate greater profits.

US authorities are increasingly open to the possibility of using cryptononedas at the national and government level, a scenario that has emerged after many legal clashes.
