Looking at this documentary series, it's really fun to go out into fields to see Columbian Gold grown "in guerrilla controlled zones", in Columbia.

Columbian Gold strain is by far the best i have ever smoked; almost identical to Acapulco Gold. The true strain disappeared about 1979, 1980 from the US. A pound would be a big compressed muffin. The color was totally gold!

You will know when you smoked it cause it's a high you won't forget…
I remember the taste of CG as if it were yesterday . The actual taste and smell of CG was like that of blond Lebanese hash from that era, with one hell of a lung expansion that made you cough your ass off! The high was hallucinogenic. It would put this weed today to shame. All the cross breeding f'd things up for landrace strains!

Well, let’s look up Leafy and see what they say:

Colombian Gold is a classic landrace sativa that originated in the Santa Marta mountains of Colombia. Its buds are fluffy and crystal-covered, radiating skunky, sweet notes of lemon and lime. This indigenous sativa parented the famous Skunk #1, a hybrid that has become a staple of cannabis breeding. The active, uplifting, and focused effects of Colombian Gold come without paranoia and anxiety, making this strain a great choice for novice consumers or those needing to stay productive while medicating. Colombian Gold may help patients ease muscle tension, pain, and other physical symptoms, but its stimulating and happy qualities could also be used for depression and ADD/ADHD.

Medicinally, one reviewer reports:

“CG has been the best medicine for me. CG is incredible medicine. Don't fall into the prejudice that Indicas provide the best pain relief."

Cultivation:

Growers report Acapolco Gold and Columbian Gold to be difficult to grow indoors. Landrace strains are tuned for the specific climate they thrive in (hot full constant sun), and need to be grown mostly outdoors (except for germination and early vegatative stages), grow slowly (due to narrow leaf shape), are easily ruined and should not be attempted by novice growers.

Novice growers may want to get seeds of a direct hybrid, like Skunk #1.
Advanced growers may want to cross-breed CG with a pure Indica, and find resulting plants that have the best character of each parent.
(A very fast growing Sativa dominant, which is easy to grow.)

Hybrids directly descended from CG:

  • Sacred Seed Co. originally bred Skunk #1 using diverse genetics from around the world; Afghani, Acapulco Gold, and Colombian Gold.

  • THERAPLANT released their Columbian Gold line "Dahnva"

ohhhh i dont know before this that u have a also good craze in smoking like ur musics maybe its good and u havr good knowledge on it....but i have no any chance in my life when i smoking @surfyogi sir

That's why it's SO IMPORTANT to understand dosage, and what types are possible to still remain "functional" and do your work, study, etc.

These strains can actually help study, and keep awake when it's difficult to concentrate.
They excite the brain and keep it focused on the task at hand, if you really find it of interest...

For example, I love exactly this strain, and only one small puff ;-) Done.

For the documentary, where they go see the Sativa in Columbia, find it here:

20:00 they go to the sativa fields

It's harder than it looks, to grow these Sativas.

I remember how the buds were so long, and slim, and always had some seeds. I think they would kill the male plants too late in the season, and so some fertilization had still happened; maybe not as much as normal.

The gold color is most likely due to being picked late, over mature.
So IF it was grown as true sesamia and IF it was picked earlier, it might be even better!

So it needs to be in full sunlight, sunny side of a hill, where each plant can be above the next, terraced a bit..

It's pretty fun to see the strainchasers get let into a full on cartel grow, on the documentary. Huge field of it.

Most people think this weed was nothing like strains we have today; but it was easily 23% THC, and the most exciting buzz I ever had in my life, still today.

Look at that beauty.
I've never had Columbian Gold before and from what you are saying it seems like I'm missing out.

Sad to see that the true strain had died off and we cannot witness that beautiful gold colouration anymore.

The best thing about cannabis is that despite all the controversy around it, it does more good than harm such as being used as a way to fight depression.

Thanks for telling us about Columbian Gold today @surfyogi! :)

There are different names for this sativa. It has not died out, it's just not imported to the US as much any more.
Santa Marta Sativa is same thing as CG.

In the documentary(s) listed above, one episode goes to Columbia and they are allowed by the occupying forces, to enter into vast fields of it!

Wooow , you left me with my jaw dropped . Have you ever grown your own ??

I used to grow many hybrids, never any landraces, 20 years ago. Now hybrids seem to completely dominate. The reason is they are much easier to grow ;-) And they grow faster, and they are more pest resistant. But they usually don't have the expansive, headrush pure Sativa experience the CG and AG has.

Some great Sativa hybrids I am aware of:

  • Green Crack - amazing
  • ChemDog - kicks butt
  • Blue Dream - direct descendant of AG, it can be very good

You just named a lot of my favorite strains especially Blue dream , big favorite of mine and a lot of customers in NYC :D

Well, I am not much of a smoker and honestly I have no significant knowledge about sativa's and Indica's but I am writing this comment to appreciate your knowledge and efforts to make people aware about it. I can see your passion and love for sativa's and some smoking stuff and if I read them deeply, then there's much to learn from them.
I really appreciate your efforts sir :) You write what you love, not what other wants to read.

Fortunately @cryptonet, folks (like me, and I'm assuming you) ENJOY reading what he loves. 😊

Super post, @surfyogi! It's got me feelin sativa-sentimental, hankering for Aca Gold... 💚🌿🌬

What are your favorite Sativa's you've been able to find?

  • Green Crack
  • Chemdog
  • Blue Dream

are some of the hybrids I've had that were headrush oriented almost pure Sativas.

Sounds like a good strain for pain-relief. Is the pic above supposed to be the Steemit symbol ^.^ ?

Good one.
Now you got me thinking... hum.

Not sure what I made you think of, but always good to make someone think lol.

About making a Steemit logo out of buds.
Notice how LONGGGG these buds are in the picture; Sativa's grow very tall...
another reason they need to be outside or in a green house.

Oh so it didn't look like that on purpose :P (or I am just imagining things). Yes they are long, but not that thick though. So I suppose they become one of those trees of a few meters long ^.^

That looks like some good stuff 😉👍

I've watched alot of thier vids on YouTube. Big proponent for legalizing and using the incredible revenue and medicinal properties of Mary Jane for good. Wonderful plant it is

Pain relief medicines can use it and develope many great discoveries with it. I was waiting for your call on skype today but you seemed to busy today. You called in the morning but I gave you 10 pm time. May Be some misunderstanding happened.

Sheeesh, salivating... Need to book a ticket...lol
