Drugs in Japan—How not having Cannabis Turned me into a Vegan

in #marijuana7 years ago

The arguments concerning whether or not cannabis should be legalized or decriminalized have been well rehearsed. Therefore, I will not belabor that point too much. I will, instead, present my personal story on cannabis.

For a long time, I had suffered from ulcerative colitis. For those who do not know about it is an is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It affects the gastrointestinal tract. Ulcerative colitis occurs when the lining of the large intestine (also called the colon), rectum, or both, becomes inflamed. This inflammation produces tiny sores called ulcers on the lining of your colon. Below is more information on the condition:

http://www.healthline.com/health/ulcerative-colitis#Overview1

My disease got so bad that I was having up to fifteen or more bowel movements daily. I will spare you the gory details and just say that I lost almost twenty pounds in two weeks. I was taking fifteen pills per day; five pills in the morning, five pills in the afternoon and five pills in the evening. I was literally living in hell. This happened a few months ago, briefly after moving to Japan. I wrote extensively about being ill in a preceding post.

Drugs are illegal here (that is with the exception of liquor and nicotine). There is also no distinction between and/or among illegal substances; so possession of cannabis carries the same sentence as cocaine or other hard drugs. To anent that, Japanese jails are horrible. Furthermore, cannabis is very difficult to get here, and even if I could get it, I would not take the chance. In fact, I did not take the chance when I was getting ill. Due to this, my condition deteriorated. That was in February of this year. I spent over two weeks in the hospital, when I went to the doctor—a stomach disease specialist—he told me that he was not certain how to treat me, and advised me to return if I got ill again. That was the last conversation we had. After doing my own research I found that the only people who cured their condition were those who switched to veganism and/or used cannabis.

When I sifted through the archives, all the conventional sources of medicine concluded that there was no cure for the disease; only treatment with toxic substances i.e. pills and injections.

Since switching to veganism my UC has been in remission, I want to expedite the process by using cannabis here in Japan, but I am scared, plus my job conducts Olympic style drugs tests on its employees.

Also, as a foreigner, the punishment and scandal surrounding someone who is a non-Japanese is multiplied ten-fold. In essence, the risk is too great. I am even more cautious after hearing the story of a woman who had a run in with the law after she was found taking cannabis oil for a similar disease. Though she lives in the United States, I am still fearful when I hear her story. You can hear her story below, it is quite interesting.

I really need some strength because it is hard not only being kept from this medicine, but being in a foreign country where one has little agency. Despite this, I now see the importance of sharing one’s story on a platform like this. And for those who may be wondering why I am in Japan and not elsewhere, where the medicine is accommodated. The simple answer is economics. Until then words and steemit.com is all I have. Thank you and I look forward to your comments.

I suffer from similar if not the same thing....and mj is the only cure since veganism is just never an option. Lol. But i get it. I basically fast when it happens to me and let my body heal. Same thing as going vegan lol. I think its the dyes and preservatives and chemicals in certain foods. Its always a combo of certain foods that will trigger...

Hmm. I will look into the preservatives and chemicals claim. Off the bat. It makes sense.

Trust me tho. I have no answer... everytime iI think i figured it out is usually when it hits worst...i just KNOW its what I eat...

Veganism works for me. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Fasting works for me too. You just feel it with your mind how negative frequencies are leaving you.
MJ makes you think about what fuel you use for the energy.

I use cannabis as a default medicine and always look for information about how others use it. In your case, how do you use the medicine? Eating the oil? Any idea about which works better, indica or sativa?
Does pure CBD do the trick or do you need THC?

CBD is fine. But I don't mind a bit of THC.

wow, I live in japan also and it is different here so much when it comes to drugs, But i end up going back to states to have my fun lol. I am vegan for most of the year, I like being vegan in Okinawa because its so easy to get naturally grown food here.

Lucky you. LOL.

P.S. Your story is crazy. I'll come back and comment as me @carrieallen 😘

@carrieallen . Thanks a lot. I am gonna do a marijuana series. I am a huge advocate of the medicine.

I hope you get better soon! I am glad that vegan food is helping you!

Hey thank you for sharing, your story is very interesting to me. I had a teacher who was always posting about his UC and how he was about to try some 'extreme' medication because nothing else was helping. I always thought to maybe just politely ask him, if he has ever considered veganism, as in ditching all his dairy, meat and eggs and just going plant based. Because this isn't the first time I've heard of someone healing their UC by going vegan. I believe that veganism holds so much potential for people and we are only now starting to discover(or maybe re-discover?) that we are meant to be eating this way. Because even though there is this prevailing belief that our ancestors ate mostly meat with a bit of scavenging, there us actually evidence of a more 'plant based' past. Like we have analyzed 'fossilized human poop remains' ... (called coprolites) and have analyzed these from thousands of years ago and the poop is basically full of what you'd expect from a plant-based people. Along with cannabis as medicine. Something people seemingly have known for a long time but only in recent years has been suppressed. It's crazy that alcohol and nicotine products, both of which are harmful to health and even society are considered okay and often even encouraged while other things such as plant medicines with the potential to truly help people are considered 'dangerous' and 'illegal.' And from the sounds of your post, not just in Canada or the USA either... What a world we live in. At least people are starting to talk a little bit but there is still much work to be done!

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, we have some difficult times ahead. But I would like to see the glass as half full.

The Japanese are not a stupid society. If they see the benefit in the plant they will want to use it. I think they may be in the early stages of changing their minds.

I saw an article the other day here in my research and maybe you will find it useful. Good luck on your recovery.

@stonedfood. I know they are not dumb. But this is a highly bureaucratic society so change takes longer than most places. Plus, very few people are willing to rock the boat.

Before prohibition cannabis grew everywhere in Japan and played a main role in so many different cultures in the world as a sacred plant that without it we'll all still be at the age of cavemen. Applications of this plant is huge but often hidden as it could threat so many death capitalist industries starting with chemicals because they just can't keep the profit only for themselves as a plant cannot be patented and everybody could grow it easily in their garden so they would have to face too much competition. In fact, they should, and we should all claim the right to grow this plant in our garden without any restrictions. Cannabis never kills but always help.

The brainwashing has worked a lot in this country though. The very mention of the word and you receive stares of horror.

@nicholas83 Thank you for your work, I invite you to evaluate my work.

You are welcome. I will check your stuff out.
