Marijuana Investment Tilray

When I worked for Microsoft three years ago I remember some of the younger guys talking about either bitcoin or marijuana as investments to look into. I always asked what's a good marijuana stock to invest in? I could never get a straight answer so I knew these were just speculative investors. They didn't know much about the company, and they were just hoping through some stroke of luck they would buy some shares in a company and whalla the next day the stock would just shoot up and they would be rich. I have been around the block enough to know that that's just pie in the sky. You have to look at a companies financials.

• are they making money?
• are they growing, what is the year over year growth?
• the last time they reported earnings did they beat on eps, revenue?
• what was the forward guidance?

If the forward guidance is positive then we have an idea on the trend for that particular company.

Lets take a look at a marijuana company Tilray (tlry). Tilray develops and supplies cannabis based medicine, drugs and oil products in 10 countries. Its ranked #133 in the medical-biomed/biotech group. A company called ligand is ranked #1.
Tilray missed on their last quarterly earnings report by 0.08 so that shows that for that quarter what analyst expected them to make they came up short. The company at this time is losing money.
On August 1, 2018 tilray's stock price was $22, on Wednesday September 19, 2018 the stock price hit an all time high of $300. People we salivating over the missed opportunity and kicking themselves that they didn't jump on the bandwagon sooner. On Friday September 21, 2018 Tilray closed at $123.

Tilray might still be a company that will perform pretty well but the current financials don't support a legitimate financial investment in the company unless your prepared for a 30% drop like what we saw yesterday.

Do your own research then pick and choose wisely in this sector. only invest what you can afford to lose. At this time marijuana investment is still very speculative but with pending legalization there could be some investment opportunity. On October 19 Canada will legalize the selling and usage of cannabis for recreational and medical use. Tilray headquarters is in Nanaimo, Canada.
