Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi

in #mansoor4 years ago

Tiger Pataudi, as he was fondly known, was the Nawab of Bhopal. His nickname 'tiger' came from his ferocious and aggressive personality. At age 21, he became the youngest Indian to captain the Test group, a record which he still retains. Pataudi played his whole global career with a single eye, still time and connecting the chunk as impeccably as anyone else.

Background

At the age of 16, Pataudi began his first-class livelihood, representing Sussex from the year 1957. He even represented Delhi in first-class games until 1966 before being drafted in the Hyderabad team.

Debut

Back in 1961, Pataudi met with an accident which resulted in him losing sight in his right eye. However, he trained rigorously to perform with a single eye. Only six months after the tragic accident, he had been called up to represent India in December 1961.

Rise to Glory

Following his dazzling match-winning knock of 103 at the Madras test against England, he was handed over the vice-captain's duties for the show against the mighty Windies in 1962. He was made the captain of the side very soon as Nari Contractor suffered an injury.
