Even if you are not the most knowledgeable fashionista to have walked this earth, chances are you heard of Manish Malhotra. So here are 10 Bollywood lehengas that will get you day-dreaming into la-la land.

It’s hard to pick one thing about ensemble worn by Aditi Rao Hydari at Anushka-Virat’s wedding reception. The royal blue lehenga with velvet blouse and silk work lehenga with peacock motif just makes you dizzy with desire.

The mirror work done accompanied by flower embroidery on the ivory lehenga makes one nostalgic about the autumn season and is also a throwback to the traditional mirror work that can still be seen in Sheesh Mahal at the Amber Fort. The Western cut of the blouse is just perfect contrast to the more traditional lehenga. Of course it helps that it’s the gorgeous Sonakshi Sinha who is wearing it.

This one is again an outstanding creation that just makes you go weak in the knee just looking at it. Where to begin? From the simple and modest blue velvet blouse to the dupatta with the cream net border to the golden silk lehenga that ends with Gujrati-style mirror work, it’s all too gorgeous.

This one is a bold outfit, and not just because deep V-necked blouse. Not everyone can carry it, not everyone will love it but for those who do, congratulations for flowing against the mainstream current. The tulle lehanga and the golden blouse definitely make my heart beat faster.

It’s hard to argue against anything worn by Kareena Kapoor, the Begum and the Bebo. The white threadwork on a simple skin colored base, will convert you to the cult of monochromatic.

This tribalesque lehenga is perfect for ethnic cultural festivals, especially any from Gujrat-Rajasthan side. Whether it be the frill ending at the bottom or the gota work or the simple lines of the blouse, the harmonious balance between the complexity and the austerity of the design is completely delicious.

The fringed crop top is just so multi-purpose. You can wear it in disco and wear it to the weddings. And the contrast with the lehenga is something that only Manish Malhotra could have carried out so well.

This one is such a cute little lehenga with its sea-shell design. In a rather rare colour for the desi fashion, it goes on to show that for desi clothes, black might be the new orange, pink or red. The risqué blouse is just the cherry on the top, just in case anyone is in doubt about the edgy fashion instincts that the lehenga seem

What I really love about Manish Malhotra is that he is willing to go out of his comfort zone and really experiment with his creations. There is no stereotypically Manish Malhotra style lehenga. And this one here is the proof. Just look at the colour palette and flower embroidery that screams “spring” but in a refreshing manner.

Is it a gown? Is it a lehanga? It’s both! Kipling had declared years back that “East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet”. But this piece, negates what he said. There can be a meeting between both the styles and the result is truly irresistible.
