The paths of man: Is a wolf ever allied with a lamb? So the sinner with the righteous. Ben Sira 13:17
The master of wisdom Ben Sira taught about a fundamental spiritual issue, that we must always keep in mind and never forget, he told us how the similar seeks the similar, because at some point living beings can find pleasure in similarity, and this teaching is related to the well-known law of attraction.
Sheep mix with sheep and wolves mix with wolves, and this is a logical matter in nature, and in an analogous way, that is why in spirituality righteous people do not live with sinful people, and an example of this was the life of Cain and Abel who were brothers in the book of Genesis.
As expressed by the teacher Ben Sira with wise words:
"Every living thing loves its own kind,
and we all love someone like ourselves.
Every living being keeps close to its own kind;
and people associate with their own kind.
Is a wolf ever allied with a lamb?
So the sinner with the righteous" Ben Sira 13:15-17.
Between sin and righteousness, there is a very strong dissonance, and this is empathy, among sinners the neighbor does not matter. Compassion, that is, the capacity of being moved by the misery of the other, makes a fundamental difference when it is present in a person. Good is pleasant and evil is painful.
That is why Ben Sira continued with his teachings and warned us of something very important, if we are upright people and there are also sinful people on our way, we must be attentive and alert; because death or misfortune can occur to us at the most inopportune moment: "Can there be peace between the hyena and the dog?" Ben Sira 13:18. There's no peace for sinners.
Righteousness and sin are presented as paths for man, all the teachings of the sapiential books, in the bible are based on this spiritual principle. In life, everything is presented in pairs, light and dark, cold and hot. We must be attentive to the social environment in which we move, this is the fundamental message of the wise.
