Introduction: Music in KL
Hi Steemers! I'm Weili Cheah, a full time musician in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia. I'll be updating some of the projects that im involved in, as well as some of my fellow musos' gigs, as a preview to whats happening in the music scene in KL.
The first thing i would like to feature is the annual "Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival". With a few jazz pianists in town in 2014, Michael Veerapen (a pioneer in Malaysian contemporary music) suggested that we get together and organize jazz piano workshops and performances. We collectively wanted to give greater exposure to the society here about jazz and no better way to start with the piano community.
To cut the long story short, in less than two months' time we'll be on our 5th year doing this festival and we have our first Jazz Talent Competition in our regular 3-day festival at KL Performing Arts Center (KL PAC).
