KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for a man who allegedly killed a dog by shooting it with a bow and arrow.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said they had been alerted after a video of the incident started circulating on social media and WhatsApp on Friday (Sept 23).

"We believe the case occurred near a condominium at Wangsa Maju on Sept 21 but no police report has been lodged so far.

"We are now working to identify and track down the suspect involved," he said when contacted on Saturday (Sept 24).

The 23-second video shows a man clad in a jeans and black jacket aiming a bow and arrow before releasing several shots.

He can be seen squeezing through parked cars and motorcycles in what looks like a parking lot looking for stray dogs to shoot.

When released a final shot before the video stops recording a dog can be heard yelping.

The video ends with an image of a bloodied dog lying on the road with an arrow shot in its mouth.

Supt Ashari explained that while it was not illegal to own or carry a bow and arrow, it should not be used in any acts which were against the law.

"If it is used in causing injury to people, the offence would be investigated based on the severity of the injuries including causing grievous hurt and murder under Section 324 and 302 of the Penal Code respectively.

"In this instance however the offence could be categorised as animal abuse," he said.

Those with information on the case should contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
