Why does Mainframe matter to me?
First of for my readers who dont know what mainframe is, at its most basic level it is a decentralised communications platform! And i encourage everyone to head to their website and read the information provided + their white paper! I will also link to a video presentation by the team, which is a great watch!
On to why does this matter?
The current platforms we have to communicate on Gmail slack whatsapp etc, they all have one thing in common. We are at the mercy of the terms and conditions, that they will not use our data in malicious ways. This could be as benevolent as targeted adverts. But what about the future?
When our data is out on the open market, bought an sold by the highest bidder! What's to stop these centralised platforms from using our information to affect our credit scores, job prospects or worse. The amount of data collected each year is increasing at a rapid rate, and with AI technologies becoming a reality do we want to live in a world where our employer could type in our email, and have access to our entire online History's?
This may sound all abit George Orwell 1984 on you! But with AI technologies improving every year, collecting an pooling our online fingerprints! It is had become far more important to protect how our data is secured!
Step in Mainframe!
Mainframe is much more then a decentralised communication platform!
- Dark Routing! Not only are your messages encrypted. The mainframe platform will have nodes available that allow different levels of security. For example you can protect the content , as well as all parties-id involved in the messaging system. They will achieve this through their innovative Topic ID system.
- These Nodes will be incentivised to operate by the mainframe token MFT. The nodes will be responsible for packet routing, sending, delivering, holding and file storage.
- File storage - Nodes in the network that offer a file storage solution will receive tokens (MFT) in return! Note that the File is Split by the network, no one node is responsible for storing a "whole File"
- Data Services are used when a large file is uploaded that requires many small changes over the course of time. Nodes operating on this level will offer a service discover protocol. This is exciting as it will allow a truly private email database's to be set up!
- Web Apps, currently in order to host a website the address often connects to a centralised database! Amazon for example offer this type of cloud service! Mainframe allows websites/apps to be hosted in a decentralised fashion, and not be dependent on a centralised authority! This is huge, it could revolutionise that way we think about storing and accessing data.
These are just a few reasons why I am personally excited for the mainframe platform to succeed!
